A recent report by Inquirer showed that within six months, the Department of Health (DOH) revealed a concerning rise in dengue cases and deaths in Mindanao.

Across the two regions of Soccsksargen and Northern Mindanao, a total of 70 people have lost their lives to dengue in the first half of 2024.  Soccsksargen reported 32 deaths from 9,042 cases, while Northern Mindanao saw 38 deaths from 8,485 cases.

Regional Breakdown:

  • Soccsksargen: This region saw a significant increase in cases compared to last year, with a 44% rise. Cotabato province had the highest number of both cases and deaths (3,541 cases and 15 deaths).

  • Northern Mindanao: Cases in this region also rose by 35% compared to 2023. Bukidnon province had the highest number of cases (approximately 39% of the regional total).

Public health officials urge residents to be vigilant and take preventive measures to control mosquito breeding grounds. This includes regular cleanup drives and eliminating stagnant water sources around homes and communities.
